"What's You Story?" is a joint project of the
California Optomertic Association (COA) and
Primary Eyecare Network (PEN). It is a free virtual community of, by, and for Optometric Doctors (optometrists, or "ODs") licensed in California and optometry students, whether studyng here in California or natives studying elsewhere. Our goal is to provide a place where those of us dedicated to the practice of optometry in the Golden State can share our stories, views, and aspirations - among ourselves and with our patients, opinion leaders, and decision makers.
California Optometric Association (COA)
Founded in 1899, the
California Optometric Association (COA) is organized as a not-for-profit, professional trade organization for optometrists in the state of California. COA's more than 2,700 member practitioners pledge to adhere to its Code of Ethics and work to promote the highest standards of eye care. COA is dedicated to:
- Assuring that comprehensive quality care services provided by Optometric Doctors are available and affordable to everyone who needs them;
- Increasing public awareness about the importance of routine annual, comprehensive eye exams; and
- Representing the interests of students, practitioners, and the profession of optometry before policy makers and the public.
Primary Eyecare Network (PEN)
Primary Eyecare Network (PEN) is committed to enhancing the independent professional optometrist's ability to compete in a rapidly changing eye care marketplace. This includes providing:
- Favorable purchasing arrangements;
- Business management and marketing support;
- Quality educational programs for practitioners and staff;
- Electronic Medicare billing services; and
- Other support as requested by members.
PEN is guided by an Advisory Board of member optometrists who are respected leaders in the profession. With their input and guidance, programs are continually upgraded to reflect the most current strategies and technologies available. Our vendor panel is limited to the finest providers in the industry and includes those who support the ideals and goals of PEN members.
PEN was founded in 1984 by Leonard Osias, O.D., whose dream was to continue the profession of optometry.
PEN still strives to meet that goal.
